A twitter account, purported to be that of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (MIRCO), Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, tweeted an appeal to Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni to offer her daughter asylum.
It also tweeted, "All deathThreats aimed at my daughter @latendahair should cease.I can't lose a child. [sic]
It also tagged various world leaders like United States President Donald Trump, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Rwanda President Paul Kagame as well as media institutions and personalities.
Asked for clarity, the MIRCO spokesperson, Bertha Amakali sent a statement saying the account was not real and that the minister has been impersonated.
The description of the account, @Netumbondaitwah, says, "Official Twitter of the Deputy Prime Minister as well as the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia".
However, speaking to NBC News on Sunday evening, the minister said that the account was not hers and that her niece, UK-based Latenda Kalimba, has opened several social media accounts with her name.
She said her family will attempt to get help for her niece.
Attempts to get hold of Kalimba proved futile as she did not answer questions sent to her through social media and WhatsApp.
