Eight people burnt to death after head-on collision near Otjiwarongo

A horrific accident has claimed the lives of eight people along the B1 national road just north of Otjiwarongo shortly after 15h00 on Friday.
A hatchback and a bakkie collided head-on.
The eight occupants of the hatchback, five adults and three minors, including a baby, burnt to death.
Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson, warrant officer Maureen Mbeha says the South African couple, who were occupants of the bakkie, survived with serious to critical injuries.
The man has been transferred to Windhoek for further medical checkups while his wife is admitted at the Otjiwarongo private hospital.
Mbeha is appealing to the public who are missing relatives that might have travelled and didn't reach their destinations to please come forward to help identify the charred remains.
The remains of the burnt victims have been transported for forensic investigations to Windhoek.
Mbeha also called motorists to always exercise caution and be within legal speed limits when driving to and from their destinations.
