Higher Education Minister Itah Kandjii-Murangi said Namibian students in China are not neglected and the ministry is closely monitoring the situation, amid the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus.
Kandjii-Murangi was responding to questions in the National Assembly on whether the Namibian government is considering evacuating its students.
Namibia has many students studying across China, with 27 located in Wuhan, the epicentre of the deadly virus.
The town is on a lockdown and residents are not allowed to go out of their houses without prior approval from health officials.
The minister says there is no need for panic yet adding that there is a committee set up to closely monitor the situation in China who is always on standby to respond.
Countries like the USA and Russia have ordered planes to evacuate their citizens from China.
The virus has now killed more than 1 000 people around the world with China recording most deaths.
