Katima residents commemorate World Aids Day

Hundreds of residents of the Zambezi Region gathered at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex to commemorate the 30th World AIDS Day on Friday.
This year the National Day in Namibia is commemorated at Katima Mulilo under the theme ‘Strengthening Cross Border Collaboration in combating HIV and AIDS’.
In his welcoming remarks, Zambezi Governor, Lawrence Sampofu observed that the day gives an opportunity to reflect on in-roads and challenges that affect the ambitious treatment target of 90-90-90.
This means that by 2020, 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status, 90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy and 90% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression.
The Katima Mulilo World AIDS commemoration is attended by dignitaries from neighbouring Angola, Botswana and Zambia.
The Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Bernard Haufiku delivered the keynote address.
