MTC attempts to make amends after data disappearing complaints

MTC today announced that they will give each customer 300MB free data. The free data will be available for use on both pre-paid and post-paid service plans commencing on Wednesday, 20 September as from 08h00 until Friday
MTC has refuted allegations that it is exploiting its customers by monopolising the telecommunications industry.
Instead, Chief Human Capital & Corporate Affairs Officer at MTC, Tim Ekandjo said that the free data is a token of MTC’s appreciation to all customers for their loyalty, continued support, and to extend an apology for any inconvenience they might have endured during the recent MTC’s system enhancements.
This comes after mobile giant's customers complained on issues such as data disappearing and recharge balance not showing, among others.
MTC's official complaints page on Facebook has been abuzz with customers protesting against the services specifically data issues.
One of the posts on the page from an unhappy customer reads, "I woke up this morning to find that all my free and double data was gone! Thanks MTC."
Another one reads "MTC please stop. You are not funny". These are just some of the many complaints.
Tim Ekandjo said the issue was caused by the system enhancement for both post and pre-paid services.
The agitated customers have also threatened to part ways with MTC to join another service provider.
On whether the inconvenience is likely to have a reputational damage to the company, Ekandjo said, “There is always going to be reputational damage and we are not by any chance saying the three data we are giving to customers will erase the inconvenience, we have loyal customers and we don’t think there will be a mass customer migration to our competitors.”
