The My Namibia Song competition has been halted.
Information and Communication Minister, Stanley Simataa announced that the cancellation was because the votes received from the competition failed to meet the minimum threshold.
The winning song was projected to receive between 20 000 to 50 000 votes. Only slightly over 6 000 votes have been received so far.
Five out of over 140 songs submitted were recently chosen as the finalists.
My Namibia Song was launched last year to promote Namibia’s diverse culture.
The winning song was supposed to be played at national events and the winner was supposed to be played at the Independence Day celebrations this month.
Simataa could not say what the next step would be.
