NAMPOL calls on public to take notice of alleged kidnap audio

The Namibian Police (NAMPOL) have encouraged the nation to take notice of an audio circulating on social media, by a woman alleging a kidnap attempt on her niece in Windhoek’s Grysblok residential area, on Tuesday.
The woman in the audio alleged that a kidnap attempt was made on her sister’s six-year-old son while on his way to school in the company of the nanny near the Oponganda Cemetery at 05h00 on Tuesday by a strange man whose attempt was allegedly foiled by the presence of people passing by.
NAMPOL’s spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi in a media statement on Tuesday said although no case on the incident has been reported with the police, the woman’s appeal cannot be taken lightly.
Shikwambi said: “Disappointingly there is no report made to the police but be that as it may and while still in pursuit of the lady to confirm this case, the woman's appeal cannot be taken lightly.
Let us not discard her cautionary message about possible kidnapping cases as we are not immune to such criminal cases and therefore, we all need to be alert.”
The police, she noted has previously warned and continue to request the nation to be alert of prevalent and or new crime trends within the society.
“The nation must know that primarily the protection and or safety of our children is in the care of the parents, guardians and or caregivers. Therefore, we always need to safeguard our children including ourselves, the deputy commissioner cautioned.
Shikwambi, therefore, appealed to the woman to visit her office or the Khomas Crime Coordinator at the Windhoek main police station.
