Omusati woman dumps baby in pit latrine

Omusati police are investigating a case of concealment of birth and attempted murder.
It is alleged that the suspect, a 24-year-old Angolan national, gave birth to a healthy baby boy at the house where she is employed as a domestic worker.
She did not inform anyone about the birth.
She walked to the pit latrines within the Ombundamuti Combined School premises where she threw the baby into the latrine.
Learners heard the baby crying inside the pit latrine and informed the principal who alerted the police.
The police, with the assistance of the community, broke down the toilet to save the baby boy.
The baby was rushed to Outapi District Hospital and is reported to be in good condition.
Omusati Police spokesperson inspector Linekela Shikongo says the suspect, from Okaku village, was arrested.
She is admitted to the Outapi District Hospital under police guard and is expected to make her court appearance when she is discharged from the hospital.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, at Ombundamuti village in Ogongo Constituency.
