More stakeholders should help the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) with voter education to ease the voting process on election day, the presiding officer for the Katutura Central Community Hall, Bethold Ngarizemo said on Wednesday.
Speaking to NAMPA during the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections at the polling station in Windhoek, Ngarizemo said some voters do not understand the difference between the Presidential and National Assembly Elections and the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections.
He said they, for instance, do not understand that in the Regional Council and Local Authority elections, voters can only cast their votes in the constituency where they are registered and that sometimes leads to delays in the voting process.
“This election is per constituency. You might find a person from Katutura East Constituency standing in the queue for Katutura Central Constituency, one for instance from Omaheke Constituency was here up to the last point to cast her vote, but unfortunately, she could not make it,” said Ngarizemo.
Polling stations for the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections opened at 07h00 on Wednesday and are scheduled to close at 21h00.
