Former Justice Minister Sacky Shanghala and Fishcor chairman James James Hatuikulipi have been arrested in Windhoek on Wednesday.
The duo and two others have been implicated in a fishing quota scandal that sent shockwaves throughout the country.
The arrest was confirmed by Namibian Police chief, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga. Pressed to confirm if any other arrests will follow, Ndeitunga revealed that whoever is involved in the alleged scandal will be arrested.
He was also at pains to explain his disappointment in an arrest warrant error that saw the release of former Fisheries Minister Bernhard Esau who too is implicated in the multimillion-dollar scandal.
"Even if it is an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) led operation, the police remains a major stakeholder. We were not supposed to allow this technical problem to go through. All of us need to work together to ensure the trust of the public," he said.
The two are expected to make their first court appearance tomorrow.
