The SWAPO Party Youth League is calling on the City of Windhoek to stop demolishing shacks at Goreagab Dam in the Samora Machel Constituency.

Its Secretary, Dr Elijah Ngurare, described the act of destroying homes of the poor as deplorable, barbaric and inhuman.

Ngurare advised local authorities Councillors to handle the matter with sensitivity and respect for human dignity living in the informal areas.

After the visiting the demolished homes, Ngurare saw no difference between the 1959 forced removal of Namibians by apartheid South Africa from the Old Location and the current eviction of the people who illegally settled at Okahandja Park and Goreagab Dam.

He further described the situation as shameful given the fact that the municipality responsible for the evictions is administered by the ruling party members.

The youth leader called on the local authority councillors to investigate those that had disrespected their directives, by evicting residents at the Okahandja Park and Goreagab Dam.

Ngurare warned the councillors on the SWAPO ticket to remain relevant to the aspirations of the electorate.
