The scientist in charge of the Cuvelai-Etosha Basin says media reports that the underground water resources discovered in northern Namibia will provide water for over 400 years are misleading.

Martin Quinger told NBC News that the amount of stored water, conservatively calculated, would equal the current supply of that area in northern Namibia for 400 years.

Quinger made the remarks during a presentation on the "Groundwater Investigation in the Cuvelai-Etosha Basin" in the capital last night.

The project is the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, NamWater and the German Institute for Geo-sciences and Natural Resources to the value of 17 million Namibia dollars.
