President Hifikepunye Pohamba urges the first-ever SWAPO Party National Conference to address challenges surrounding bread and butter issues affecting the nation.

The meeting, which started in Windhoek today(mon), is reviewing policies to ensure that they remain responsive to people's needs and aspirantions.

President Pohamba stressed that the meeting clearly indicated that the ruling party was determined to do away with past injustices, including poverty and under-development, facing most Namibians.

Delegates will also discuss ways of resolving unemployment and poverty, land acquisition and distribution as well as development and economic empowerment of the youth.

The four-day meeting follows hard work by members of the SWAPO Party Think Tank who, for the past months, have been compiling documents identifying challenges requiring attention, while proposing suggestions.

The Head of State said the Government may only carry out its mandate as entrusted by the voters, if it reviews its strategies regularly.

President Pohamba encouraged the delegates to engage in frank and open discussion to ensure that issues are address properly.

President Pohamba said that was not the kind of society that thousands of Namibian fought for and practical solutions should be found.
