Windhoek-based Happydu volleyball club coach Ishitile Aloysius believes that ace Volleyball player Stephanus Kangandjera has what it takes to become a star in the sports code, even foreseeing Olympic potential.
Stefanus Kangandjera caught the eye of national team selectors in 2015, when he turned up for the Nampower team in the social club league as a 15-year old.
He never looked back and it came as no surprise that he was eventually drafted to the national under-17 team at the tender age of 16.
Kangandjera, who played both versions of volleyball, including beach, is now a full-fledged member of the senior national volleyball team.
His coach at the Happydu Volleyball club, Aloysius Ishitile, who has been responsible for the growth of the player in a short period of time speaks highly of him.
“He is one of the disciplined players that's why his progress is always on point. He is committed, if he says “coach let's go for training” he means it that is why he is one of the best.
He is aiming high, he is one of the youngest players who is always aiming to be play at the level of Olympic in Namibia but coming to our side of Volleyball, we are trying to push if maybe we can get other players like him his dream is to play at the Olympic” Aloysius said.
Kangandjera believes that his sudden rise to the top of the game came by virtue of hard work.
“I played a lot of social games, a lot of big competition. The biggest I think is the Namibia Volleyball Federation’s cup that we have yearly. That is how my Volleyball has improved until this point “Kangandjera said.
Despite his continuous improvement, trying times caused by COVID-19 are not making it easy for young sportsmen and women like Kangandjera.
“I think it has affected me in a negative way, but I'm pushing hard on the fitness side” he said.
Kangandjera's team Happydu which hails from Soweto in Katutura was established in 2017 and is affiliated to the Namibia Volleyball Federation.
