Special Olympics Namibia to host regional games

Windhoek-Special Olympics Namibia is set to host their first regional games in Windhoek on the 21st of June.
The Regional Games, which are set to be hosted for the first time ever, will be used as a tool to identify talent and prepare for the World Games next year.
Simon Muinjo, the Regional Director of Special Olympics Namibia said the event will serve them on various platforms.
“We are going to use this games to try and reach out to all the regions in Namibia to identify talent as well as to select athletes for International games like the world games next year, as well as national games this year in August this games will also help us to capture a data base of how many active athletes do we have in the regions”Muinjo said.
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Those activities give them continuous opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.
Muinjo said through sports, para- athletes are seeing themselves for their abilities, not disabilities.
Their world is opened with acceptance and understanding, and so they become confident and empowered by their accomplishments.
