A consignment of about 500 tonnes of rice will soon arrive in Namibia as part of the Chinese Government's pledge towards Namibia's drought relief programme.

The first batch of a consignment of rice from China will arrive at the Walvis Bay Port in mid-December. Chinese Embassy Charge d Affaires, Wu Wei, says 450 000 kilogrammes of rice will initially be given to Namibia as part of China's pledge towards drought relief to Namibia.

AU donates money to Namibia

The African Union, AU, has donated about 1,3 million dollars to the Namibian government to assist drought-affected communities. Namibia is suffering from persistent drought, due to poor rainfall received over the past-three years.
