A 60-year-old man died after he was allegedly stabbed with a kitchen knife on the left side of his chest by his girlfriend at a farm near Rehoboth on Saturday.
The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay, told Nampa on Sunday that the incident happened at farm Platsand, approximately 38 kilometres north of Rehoboth.
It is alleged that the suspect stabbed the deceased with a kitchen knife on the left side of the chest and that he died in bed where his body was discovered in the morning.
Clay said it is unknown when exactly the incident took place and what led to the stabbing as both the deceased and the suspect were under the influence of alcohol the evening before the incident.
The deceased was identified as Malisiu Vatileni and his next of kin have been informed of his death.
The 50-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
In an unrelated incident, a 49-year-old male passenger died on the spot on Saturday after the car he was traveling in left the road and overturned, injuring the driver and three other passengers.
Confirming the incident, Clay told Nampa on Sunday that the accident occurred at about 18h00 on the Bahnhoff-Usib road approximately 15 kilometres east of Rehoboth.
“It is alleged that the driver of a white Volkswagen Jetta with a Rehoboth registration number lost control of the vehicle in the bend and it left the road and overturned, killing one of the four passengers and injuring the driver,” Clay said.
The driver was found to be over the legal alcohol limit and was admitted under police guard at St Mary's Hospital in Rehoboth.
His condition is serious but stable.
The other three passengers escaped with slight injuries.
The deceased’s next of kin have not yet been informed of his death.
Police are investigating a culpable homicide case.
