Acceleration of Women-Owned-Enterprise Programme launched

Female start-up companies will from now on have the opportunity to grow their businesses under the Acceleration of Women-Owned-Enterprise Programme.
It is a partnership involving the United Nations, the Gender Equality and Child Welfare Ministry and the De Beers Group.
Launched Thursday, the project creates a holistic and long-term approach to promoting gender equality in socio-economic sectors.
It will support 500 women-owned micro-enterprises through training courses to help formalise and grow businesses.
The initiative focuses on marketing, record-keeping, stock management, costing and business planning aiming at increasing profit and ensuring sustainability.
Gender Minister Doreen Sioka explained that the new partnership addresses challenges facing women entrepreneurs.
She said the process will stimulate income-growth through capacity-building in business management.
Khomas Region's Women in Business Association welcomed the initiative to train micro-business owners, stressing that many lack formal education.
Its chairperson, Clara Baitsewe, said the programme empowers micro-businesses to become stronger and more independent.
