The Katutura Magistrate's Court has revoked the bail of 20-year-old suspect Gaven Gawanab in a separate case after he was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the rape and cutting of private parts of an eight-year-old - in another rape case.
According to NamPol spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi, Gawanab stands accused of raping a woman (age not specified) two years ago. He is the accused in one more rape case while another was withdrawn and has pending housebreaking, assault as well as attempted murder cases before the courts.
He made his first court appearance on 2 May 2017 and was subsequently remanded in custody at the Wanaheda Police Station pending the outcome of his bail application.
On 14 June he was granted bail of N$1 500 which he paid a few days later.
While out on bail he committed the gruesome act of cutting the genitalia of an eight-year-old girl before raping her.
It is alleged that the victim and another child were left in his care. The suspect threatened to harm the children and one of them ran away.
The suspect fled into the mountains before he was arrested on Tuesday.
He is expected to appear in the Katutura Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
