APP Oshakati by-election case dismissed

The case in which the All People's Party (APP) lodged an urgent application to prevent the Oshakati East Constituency by-election from taking place has been dismissed in the Oshakati Regional Court on Friday.
APP asked the court to stop the by-election as its candidate was not allowed to contest.
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) said that the party was late with its application and therefore barred the candidate from the election.
According to magistrate Leopold Hangala the application has no merit in law adding that his reason is reserved and will be made available at a later time.
The election is scheduled for Saturday 24 August.
The seat became vacant after the death of Councillor Lotto Kuushomwa in May.
