Appointment of ministers will be based on ability to review economic sectors - Geingob

President Geingob says the appointment of ministers to his next administration would be based on the ability to review economic sectors without compromising the image of government and SWAPO Party.
He commended the acting Minister of Fisheries, Albert Kawana over industry stakeholder engagements while looking into the affairs of the ministry and FishCor.
Minister Kawana is reviewing the activities of the Fisheries Ministry, after which he is expected to make recommendations to President Geingob.
The directive to look into the affairs of the ministry was necessitated by the corruption exposé in which former ministers, Bernhard Esau and Sacky Shanghala and Fishcor officials are implicated.
The Head of State also lashed out critics accusing him of being a weak leader, when it comes to dismissing Cabinet ministers directly implicated in scandals.
According to Geingob, processes were followed, and the ministers were given options to be relieved of their duties through dismissals or resignations for the investigations to continue unhindered.
None or slow implementation of policies by the ministers is also a concern, which the President says could amount to sabotage, compromising service delivery to the electorate in the process.
He called on the rank and file of SWAPO to defend the ideals of the movement while delivering on socio-economic campaign promises.
