The Erongo Regional Council says plans are underway to come to the aid of the Daures constituency farmers who have been hit hard by the prevailing drought.
The council says it has received bags of fodder from Green Grazing Solutions at Karibib on Friday for distribution to the affected farmers in the region.
The Regional Governor, Cleophas Mutjavikua, said an amount of 1-million dollars was also made available by the Council to assist the affected farmers.
Mutjavikua says the region has been in the grips of severe drought.
He said the bags of fodder will be distributed in the Daures, Karibib and Walvis Bay rural constituencies.
The council has mobilized the livestock feed after farmers at Omatjete and other areas of Erongo region raised concern about the loss of livestock due to the prevailing drought.
Some farmers had said they removed their livestock to other areas in search of grazing.
A Senior Agriculture Extension Technician in Omatjete, Gerson Tjimbundu, says about 25 farmers reported livestock deaths from the prevailing drought.
He thus stressed that something urgent needed to be done to assist the farmers and their livestock.
Farmers in the area also called on government to assist them with fodder.
