Earthquake hits Khorixas

Khorixas residents were awoken this morning just before 04h00 by one of the biggest earthquakes ever experienced in Namibia.
South Africa’s Council for Geoscience (CGS) reports that an earthquake measuring 4,3 on the Richter scale occurred 46 kilometres northeast of Khorixas in the Kunene Region.
CGS says the quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicentre near Khorixas, at 03h41 this morning.
Khorixas resident Abraham Nasimab says after the quake three more tremors followed in quick session.
He said it was the first time for him to experience such a heavy quake in Namibia, adding that it was a frightening experience.
Nasimab says, "it was as if the earth could open any moment."
Nasimab, however, says he couldn't observe any property damage nor did he hear of any loss of lives as a result of the quake.
