Elderly Omusati man killed in explosion

A 69-year-old man from Ontanda village in the Omusati Region died this morning after a bomb exploded at his homestead.
It is alleged that the deceased was digging out an old tree stump which was on the side of the road near his homestead when a bomb, believed to be an anti tank mine, exploded, kiling him instantly.
Omusati police spokesperson Lineekela Shikongo said police took hours trying to gather his remains on the scene.
It is suspected that the bomb was placed there during the time of the country's liberation struggle as the area is reported to have served as a farming camp for the South African Army.
The deceased has been identified as Johannes Hamukwaya and the next of kin have already been informed.
