Finance Ministry avails N$370 million to NSFAF

The Ministry of Finance will avail N$370 million to the Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) following successful negotiations with the Student Union of Namibia.
On Thursday, the newly established student union comprising student leadership of different institutions of higher learning, camped outside the offices of the Ministry of Finance demanding answers on whether they will receive financial assistance from NSFAF in 2020.
The group was afforded an audience with Finance Minister Calle Schlettwein at around 15HOO on Thursday afternoon.
The union's secretary general, Benhard Kavau confirmed to NBC News that their demand has been met and a transaction of N$170 million that was paid from the Ministry of Finance into the NSFAF account, of which he says N$82 million has already been distributed.
The money is to cover for the tuition and non-tuition fees of qualifying students countrywide.
Kavau commended the Minister of Finance for the swift move, adding that the union will keep its eyes open to further ensure that all students are served.
Finance Minister Calle Schlettwein has confirmed the payment of N$170 million to NSFAF, with another N$200 million to be paid at the end of December.
