The Food Bank, meant to distribute food to families living in abject poverty, will open its doors for the Khomasdal North Constituency on the 17th October.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, I-Ben Nashandi, made the announcement during a community meeting at Agste Laan settlement at the weekend.
The Food Bank is an initiative of President Hage Geingob as part of efforts to eradicate poverty and hunger from Namibia.
The institution first became operational in Windhoek's Tobias Hainyeko Constituency, where more than 27 000 people have been registered as recipients of the food aid.
As part of the preparation for the opening of the Food Bank, the ministry trains selected community members who are then responsible for identifying needy families living in their constituency and distributing food to them.
Khomasdal North Constituency Councillor Margret Mensah-Williams welcomed the establishment of the entity in her constituency.
