Founding President awarded the Mehdi Ben Barca Solidarity order

Cuba has awarded Founding President Sam Nujoma the Mehdi Ben Barka Solidarity Order at a ceremony in the Cuban capital, Havana. This is one of the highest awards of the Organisation of Solidarity of the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America. In his acceptance speech, Nujoma expressed appreciation and said he had followed in the footsteps of the previously distinguished recipients of the award. He said all receivers of the award had provided leadership and made outstanding contribution to the cause of solidarity, stating that he was delighted to be presented with the award. The Founding President commended the contribution of the Cuban people to the Namibian struggle for national liberation and their international solidarity with the people of Africa, Asia and Latin America. He paid homage to the Cuban internationalists who sacrificed their lives in the service of solidarity and laid a wreath at the shrine of the veterans of the Cuban Revolution. Nujoma was in Cuba at the invitation of the Cuban Government.
