Grootfontein police officer arrested for allegedly attempting to sell docket

A 32-year-old police officer at Grootfontein was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly tried to sell a police docket to a suspected perpetrator for N$2 500.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, on Thursday confirmed the arrest of the sergeant detective who is stationed at the Grootfontein Police Station.
“He was arrested at about 12h00 on Wednesday after he tried to sell a police docket with CR 31/02/2016. The docket is for a reckless and negligent driving case containing information of a minor child who was bumped at Grootfontein,” said Mbeha.
The suspect was arrested at a fuel station in Grootfontein in a joint intelligence action of NamPol and members of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Mbeha said.
Mbeha added that the N$2 500 that was allegedly meant for the sale of the docket was also found in the possession of the suspect.
The suspect is expected to appear on Thursday in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court.
Police investigation continues.
