Leake Hangala has been appointed as the new chairperson for the Namibia Airports Company’s (NAC) board of directors.
Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa announced the appointment of Hangala alongside that of advocate Irene Visser as vice-chairperson in a media statement issued Thursday.
Mutorwa said a decision was taken to effect urgently needed changes following extensive consultations with regard to the composition of the current NAC board of directors.
Hangala, who is a director and former president of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, replaces Rodgers Kauta who resigned from his duties in August 2018, while Visser replaces Beverley Gawanas-Vugs.
The minister further indicated that the NAC board chairperson and vice-chairperson appointments come into effect from 11 October 2018 till 01 August 2019.
Rudolph Rittman, Grace Muhamed and Ipupa Kasheeta remain in their positions as board members.
The minister said he would provide further details in due course on matters relating to the recruitment of NAC’s substantive chief executive officer, the ongoing court case of the Ondangwa Airport, the current status of the renovated facilities of the Walvis Bay Airport and upcoming audit by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
