Hardap Governor Esme Isaacks has urged the Safety and Security Ministry to provide decent housing for its workers at the Hardap Correctional Facility at Mariental.
Isaacks said the housing shortage at the facility is a concern and resulted in overcrowding and unhygienic living conditions.
She said the workers are doing such stressful national duty and, therefore, need decent accommodation.
The governor said some workers come from far and may not opt to buy a house in Mariental.
The Hardap Correctional Facility is currently accommodates 575 inmates, of whom 22 are female and 23 foreigners.
The governor made the remarks during her State of the Region Address at Mariental Tuesday.
