The Education, Arts and Culture Minister has called on parents and guardians to report cases of intimate relationships between adults and underage children.
Katrina Hanse-Himarwa was responding to questions during the debate on the Education Bill in the National Assembly.
She says punishment for those impregnating children should not only be limited to teachers but to all adult men found having relations with teenagers.
Hanse-Himarwa reiterated that it is a misconduct for teachers to have relationships with learners of any age, as they are entrusted to look after such children.
On the issue of mother tongue as a medium of instruction for learners from grade zero to three, Hanse-Himarwa noted such classes will be created where there is a sufficient number of learners speaking the same language.
She highlighted some of the challenges on the implementation of the policy.
With regard to introducing of religious education in school, Hanse-Himarwa said that responsibility lies with school boards to decide what religious activities and subjects could be introduced as part of the school's extra-curricular activities.
