Murder suspect takes own life along Trans-Caprivi Highway

A 37-year-old man reportedly committed suicide on Friday morning in the Ngoma area of the Kavango East Region after he allegedly killed his wife on Thursday afternoon in Windhoek.
Namibian Police Force spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi told NAMPA on Friday that the deceased was found hanging on a tree along the Trans-Caprivi Highway in the Ngoma area.
“It is alleged that after murdering his wife, the deceased called a certain woman informing her that he has killed his wife and her body was in the back flat of a house in Windhoek,” said Shikwambi.
The spokesperson said the deceased also informed the woman to whom he reported the crime that he was on his way to Katima Mulilo or Keetmanshoop.
According to a police report made available to the media earlier, the deceased was a student at Welwitschia Health Training Centre in Windhoek and she has been identified as 29-year-old Purity Luze Matengu.
The man was identified as Erick Shikanda.
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed of their deaths, said Shikwambi.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
