Namibians, Germans discuss repatriation of artefacts

A group of nine Namibians is on a tour of Germany on invitation by that country’s Federal Government’s Foreign Office.
The tour, which started this week, included meetings with officials of the Federal Government Commissioner for Cultural Affairs and the Media, the German Historical Museum in Berlin and officials of the Ethnological Museum on the outskirts of the German capital, Berlin.
The meetings discussed issues around the repatriation of Namibian artefacts from German museums as well as issues related to the return of human remains from Germany to Namibia.
The officials also met with officials of Germany’s Federal Foreign Office where current developments in German-Namibian relations were discussed.
The group includes officials from the Ministry Of Education, Arts and Culture, the National Museum of Namibia, the National Heritage Council and the National Art Gallery and will conclude the study tour on Saturday.
