The Namibia National Students Organisation (NANSO) in the Kavango East Region will observe the Day of the African Child tomorrow.
The African Union, the predecessor of the Organisation of African Unity had declared 16 of June, the Day of the African Child to honour the victims of the Soweto Uprising on the same date in 1976.
NANSO regional executive committee member and head girl at Dr Romanus Kampungu Senior Secondary School, Valentine Kasoma, says the organisation will honour the South African students killed 43-years ago.
She says those leaders and students marched in defiance of the education and racial segregation and advocated for equal rights and education for all.
The commemoration will be held at the Kavango East Regional Council auditorium, with learners from the regional schools expected to attend.
NANSO Regional chairperson Pedro Muyoyeta says the organisation advocates for the removal of all impediments to the education of learners and ensures stakeholders meet their obligations to the Namibian child.
