One of Namibia's liberation struggle icons, the seasoned diplomat and former Member of Parliament, Nora Schimming-Chase, has died at her home in Windhoek early on Tuesday.
She was 77.
Schimming-Chase was a teacher and the South West African National Union (SWANU) representative in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 1974 to 1978.
She was a member of SWANU and SWAPO before joining the Congress of Democrats (CoD), which she also represented in the National Assembly from 2000 to 2009.
Schimming-Chase was the daughter of Otto Schimming, one of the first black teachers in Namibia and early independence activist.
After Independence Schimming-Chase served as Namibian diplomat. She was Namibia's ambassador to Germany from 1992 to 1996 and Austria from 1994 to 1996
