The National Youth Service (NYS) has resumed agricultural activities at Rietfontein Centre in the Otjozondjupa Region.
As part of the NYS mandate of supporting the youth programmes, some board members and young people are working on a voluntary basis to de-bush and harvest of maize.
The NYS says the income that will be generated from the hay and maize produce at the centre will help fund youth activities.
The board's chairperson Emmerentia Leonard said, "as leadership the board chairperson and my team we are here to basically support the NYS management, staff and trainees in their attempt to lift up to our mandates to do voluntary service in the country, so we are volunteering to de bushing and clean our hay fields and to do the harvesting of maize crop to generate income for our programmes activities for the youth and especially the youth of NYS."
Before sending the youth to voluntary service, the NYS ensures that they are prepared well to be responsible citizens.
The NYS centre at Rietfontien has registered 350 young Namibians.
