The Education Directorate in the Otjozondjupa Region plans to set up tent schools to address school shortages.
Acting Education Director Josephine Mutenda said the decision will benefit more than 250 learners awaiting placement in Grade 1 at Grootfontein
and Otjiwarongo Circuits.
Mutenda said a further 161 pupils are yet to be placed in Grade 8 at Grootfontien and Otjiwarongo.
She revealed that a plot had been donated to the Directorate at Ombili informal settlement in Otjiwarongo, where the first tent school
could be set up soon for Grades 0 to 3.
Okahandja Circuit is yet to submit its placement waiting list, while Otavi is said to be struggling to place learners in Grades 1 and 8.
Placements for Grade 11 learners are going smoothly.
Mutenda said she is disappointed with the performance and results of learners, who set for Grades 10 and 12 last year.
But she said she is hopeful that this year the region will attain its target of having 60% of its pupils passing.
