Over 1,5 million tourists visited Namibia in 2019

Namibia recorded 1 595 000 tourist arrivals in 2019, which is a 2,5% increase from the 2018 arrivals. In 2018 the country received 1 557 000 tourist arrivals.
Launching the 2019 Tourist Statistical Report, Environment, Forestry and Tourism Minister Pohamba Shifeta says until this year the tourism industry has shown a positive contribution to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and economic development.
However, the global COVID-19 pandemic has now placed a big risk on the sector's activities and success.
He expressed that it is disheartening that the 30 years success of the sector, has all nearly been lost in four months due to the pandemic.
Shifeta revealed that the ministry is hard at work to find ways on how to help the sector to recover in a positive way without putting the health of the people at risk of Coronavirus.
The months of September to December are said to have received the highest arrivals of 34,4%.
