A 62-year-old man from Ohaikedi village in Eenhana Constituency was on Saturday arrested for allegedly raping his 17-year-old niece on two occasions.
A weekend crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force on Sunday said the suspect, who is also the guardian of the victim, allegedly raped the girl during the month of August this year.
It is alleged that the suspect entered the victim’s room on two occasions, undressed her and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent and the incident was only reported on Saturday, after which the man was arrested on the same day.
In a separate incident, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two suspects in Mondesa, Swakopmund between the hours of 05h00 and 6h00 on Saturday.
It is alleged that the victim was raped at an open area between Vrede Rede Primary School and Festus Gonteb Primary School in Mondesa while on her way home from a friend’s house.
It is alleged that a man approached her asking for a cellphone and she started fighting him but three other suspects grabbed her and wrestled her to the ground and two suspects had sexual intercourse with her, while others were holding her.
The suspects fled the scene and none of them have been arrested but police investigations into the incident continue.
Another case of gender-based violence was reported at Okongo, where a 25-year-old man allegedly hit his girlfriend with an empty bottle on the head at Enyana cuca shops.
The victim sustained serious injuries and the suspect has not yet been arrested as he fled the scene.
