Home Affairs Minister, Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana has been relieved of her duties.
In a letter dated 1 February 2018, President Hage Geingob states, “by virtue of the powers vested in me by Article 32(6) of the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia, I have decided to relieve you of your duties as Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration with immediate effect.”
President Geingob further says the termination of her appointment should not be interpreted as a blight on the “immense personal sacrifices, as well as the immeasurable contribution you have made in the interest of the Republic of Namibia.
Ivula-Iithana was part of the unsuccessful Team Swapo slate that stood against Geingob’s Team Harambee for the party’s top four positions at the November congress.
