President Hage Geingob says Namibians owe it to the sacrifices, heroes and heroines whose blood waters the freedom, to build a nation that restores the dignity of all.
President Geingob said this in a media statement to pay tribute to the heroes and heroines whose lives were cut short during the Cassinga massacre.
He said the incident at Cassinga left survivors with permanent scars and harrowing memories.
The act, he said, was done deliberately by the apartheid South African military to validate its propaganda that it had broken the backbone of SWAPO's military wing, PLAN.
However, the determination and spirit of Namibians never wavered, the President said, as they intensified the resolve to unite and fight to liberate the country.
Today as the country is independent, Namibians owe it to the heroes and heroines to ensure that all have access to basic amenities and services such as clean drinking water, electricity, education, health care and other basic services.
Dr Geingob wants the same determination in the fight against COVID-19.
