President Magufuli visits MEATCO plant

The visiting Tanzanian President John Magufuli and his delegation arrived at the Meat Corporation of Namibia (MEATCO) plant in Windhoek to observe the operations and meat production process.
In 2016/17, Tanzania produced about 493 000 metric tonnes of red meat, mostly beef (83%) with the remaining amount coming from sheep and goats, according to the Red Meat Production in the Tanzanian Livestock Master Plan.
MEATCO says it procures between 80 000 and 120 000 cattle per annum from Namibian farmers.
Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, Agriculture, Water and Forest Minister Alfeus !Naruseb, as well as Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Frans Kapofi were present.
Magufuli is in Namibia on a two-day State visit.
Tanzania will take over the chairmanship of the SADC region from Namibia in August.
