The Roads Authority (RA) is repairing the Keetmanshoop-Koes road that was damaged by the recent heavy rains.
The heavy rains received in the region damaged most parts of gravel roads in the region, including the tarred roads.
The Koes and Aroab road, about 200km from Keetmanshoop was closed for motorists after the road was flooded cutting off many daily commuters to Keetmanshoop.
The Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, is in the //Karas Region to assess the damage caused on roads and rail infrastructure.
Nekundi is accompanied by officials from RA, TransNamib and Namwater.
The contractor together with the repair equipment is already on-site to ensure that the road is restored and the work is expected to be completed in a week's time.
Major works on the identified gravel roads in the region will however only be completed after the rainy season.
Motorist and visitors are warned to take the necessary precautions when making use of the roads linking Keetmanshoop to Koes and Aroab.
