Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) spokesperson Kaitira Kandjii on Thursday said the process of selecting a new vice chancellor to replace professor Tjama Tjivikua is ongoing.
He was reacting to speculation that NUST has agreed to appoint University of Namibia Pro-Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Frednard Gideon in the position.
Responding to questions on Thursday, Kandjii said it is the first he heard of any selection being made.
“This is the first time I am hearing of it, no selection has been made as the process is still ongoing,” commented Kandjii.
The interview process for the position took place from 7 February to 9 February 2019.
Five candidates were shortlisted for the interviews. Three are foreign nationals, Abraham Ogwu, Dr Otlogetswe Totolo and Said Irandoust and two are Namibians - Gideon along with Erold Naomab, Assistant Pro-Vice Chancellor for the UNAM Southern Campus.
Tjivikua’s contract is set to end in June 2019.
Gideon was also shortlisted for the UNAM Vice Chancellor position, but it was taken by Kenneth Matengu last year.
