The completion of the more than N$2 million sewer reticulation plant at Ongwediva's New Reception 3 is expected to improve sanitation in the informal settlement.
The project forms part of the council's efforts to improve service delivery, such the provision of toilets, in informal settlements.
So far the digging of manholes commenced while pipelines were installed and the system is now fully functional.
More than 113 plots are expected to be connected to the system.
Speaking at the handover this morning, Ongwediva Town Mayor Angelina Angula said, providing municipal services remains central to the town's developmental agenda not only in the town's mainlands but as well as in informal settlements.
"Council resolved to relief all resident of Ongwediva Town from paying sewer connection fees, which is normally charged at N$2 000. Meaning every resident who wishes to connect to the sewer line has an opportunity to do so for free as from 3 August until 29 January 2021," said Angula.
Angula further said progress on development in Ongwediva continues to yield tangible results over the years.
Residents wishing to connect to the system however have to fork out money to purchase their own materials.
"Now that the project is 100% done, it is an obligation for individual residents of this location to visit council offices and apply for connections," said Angula.
Ongwediva town Council plans to provide the same services to the town's Extension 15.
A joint venture between Nored Electricity and the council is underway to electrify Efidi Extension 4 and part of Sky Location.
