Six Epupa Constituency villages flooded after NamPower opens sluices

At least six villages in the Epupa Constituency, of the Kunene Region, have been flooded after NamPower opened sluices of the dam that supplies water to its hydroelectric power plant at Ruacana.
Chief control officer at the Epupa Constituency Office in Okangwati, Tjikunda Kulunga, says an impact assessment the office undertook recorded 150 crop farmers impacted by the flood.
He says Otjimuhaka, Ondoozu, Ohangonga, Otjamaungu, Otjimbundu and Enjandi villages are either submerged or partially flooded.
The floods resulted from the opening of the sluices at the dam that supplies water to the NamPower Ruacana Hydroelectric Station, to reduce water pressure.
