SWAPO consulting lawyers on party members standing as independent candidates

President Hage Geingob says SWAPO is consulting legal experts on the matter of independent candidates and will take appropriate action.
During an address at a Gobabis rally Geingob said the party has nothing against independent candidates contestesting in upcoming elections.
However, he stressed that one cannot be a SWAPO member and claim independence to challenge the collective decisions of the party.
Swapo member, Dr Panduleni Itula is challenging President Geingob while holding on to the party's membership.
Both President Geingob and Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa cautioned against members being used to divide the party along tribal or racial lines.
The two leaders said the party fought to unite all Namibians and will defend those ideals.
President Geingob says the party will never tire in serving Namibians as it did pre-independence and for the past 29 years.
Geingob stated that the Swapo will continue to drive development in all regions of Namibia.
For this to happen, however, he asked the voters to give SWAPO the mandate for another five years
