Teachers should strike until demands are met-MUN

The Mine Workers Union of Namibia says if the Government wants to avert the looming teachers strike, it must change its stance and come up with -- what the union terms -an acceptable salary increase offer. MUN General Secretary Ebben Zarondo says he is very disappointed in the way Government is dealing with the matter by planning to engage volunteers to stand in for striking teachers. Zarondo says it is still not too late for the Government to engage Nantu and give teachers the 8% increase they demand.
The unionist blames the state for the failed salary negotiations, saying the involvement of regional Governors to lobby teachers not to strike was a waste of resources and time. The teachers strike is scheduled to start on Thursday. Zarondo was speaking to NBC News on the sidelines of the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union's 10th Congress which started at Keemanshoop in the //Karas region on Friday.
