Tim Ekandjo says Independence show lineup selection not based on tribe

MTC's Tim Ekandjo says that the 30th Independence Celebrations Concert is a privately-funded event organised by various sponsors.
The event has, however, been endorsed by the National Independence Preparatory Committee. Some local artists took to social media to air their dissatisfaction regarding the selection of artists scheduled to perform at the event.
To this, Ekandjo said that the organisers have taken note of the complaints made on social media about why the line up of artists mostly comprise a certain tribe and not represent the Namibian diversity.
Ekandjo, MTC's chief: of human capital, says the selection was purely based on entertainment value.
"We will not entertain any such talk. All we see are good artists. We will not entertain selection criteria based on tribe and regions," said Ekandjo. "The normal entertainment show, which takes place after the official Independence Day programme, will not take place this year," said Ekandjo.
The 30th Independence Celebrations Concert will start after the official programme is complete. The show is planned to take place at the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium on 21 March.
