The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has commended SADC for maintaining peace and stability in the region, while fostering inclusive development.
Guterres said this during a brief meeting with SADC Chairperson, President Hage Geingob on the margins of the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
He reaffirmed the UN’s support for peace efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
The UN chief says he is impressed by Namibia’s pace in implementing the women, peace and security agendas as well as enactment of domestic laws to increase women participation in decision-making structures. Namibia is the 2019 Chair of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
